When Gerald was 18, he had an encounter with the spirit of God at church. A few weeks later, he moved to Mexico for a gap year and volunteered in an orphanage. But out of the blue, he started to feel really sad. By a year in, he was on the verge of suicide. The doctor put him on an antidepressant that got him stable but still made him very sad.
