What Is Civil Asset Forfeiture?
The study looked at highway stops, drug traffic stops in Tennessee along a stretch of highway that was part of the highway you would travel from Mexico to New York City. The police would routinely set up roadblocks and search the cars for evidence of this drug trade. If they found the evidence, they could confiscate the assets and keep these assets for themselves. This actually benefited the bottom line of the local police departments.
