The Different Definitions of Energy Expenditure

There's just these two completely different definitions floating around for that term. For me, one of the things that I found interesting opening this question up was going back to Ansel Keys' Minnesota starvation experiment. There again, there is a wider literature that would really focus on the activity component as potentially what is more adaptive in this type of context where energy balances is changing. And then in that context, if we look more at activity related, energy expenditure, it's enormous in terms of physical activity, energy expenditure.
