Mallory's le morte d'artour is the last great work of arthurian literature. The grail factors in as an important goal and quest of the knights of the round table. It can be seen as a retelling of the vulgate cycle, but with a different thrust. In this way, you could see the whole process as foreordained. And so there's a kind of fatalism.
