It's a poem in two volumes. Some people think of it as actually the longest poem in the English language. Melville himself said that it was eminently adapted for unpopularity. It's basically the story of somebody just endlessly wrestling with doubt. And so tragic on the surface. But again, there's this incredible energy in the wrestling.
