The sacrifice here described is in a sacred place with gods, a communal area and at a sacred time of year. So it doesn't necessarily reflect a daily ritual that people would do in their homes. The chief who made the feast had to consecrate the horns and all the sacrificial food. Now you have quite a good idea of how to practice Indo-European paganism on a daily basis. These are the forms that should be taken.
