Xenophon's Socrates
Xenophon wrote an apology of socrates, describing what he said at the trial where he was condemned to death. Xenophon strenuously rejects aristophanes' slanders against socrates and his way of life. For him, socrates was a paragon of virtue whom few people could hope to imitate. He also emphasizes socrates's hot line to god. This was socrates's famous divine sign something also mentioned more than once by plato. In both versions, but especially that of xenophon, socrates is stunningly arrogant.
