Introduction

The pentose phosphate pathway is how we use glucose to make NADPH and 5-carbon sugars. The phosphorylation of NADPH does not change its intrinsic reducing or oxidizing power. Our cells maintain much higher concentrations of NAD-plus than NADH, making it good for oxidative purposes.
