The Costs of Fail Prophecies
The costs to leaving a group can be high, so people might still stay. The cognitive dissonance theory suggested that failed prophecies just created this dissonance but people try to relieve it no matter what. So in these views, there can be different ways. Maybe some peripheral people leave. Maybe some, maybe it's just a disaster, and people make no attempts to even try to fix it.
