Is There Something Special About Breath?

If i was to practise a shamata meditation, where i'm focusing on the breath of a nose and really focusing on the pleasant sensations that might draw me further in. Is that the same state of mind? Could that be considered automatic, self transcending? Or is there's something special about the sound aspect, the mas the sound, because when your attentionis the thing is is, i'm not putting anything else down. Pronium and breath work is great, but it doesn't, it's not the same as transcending.
