The through-cuing method is really a way to explain how it is that students manage to become fluent readers and recognize words. It doesn't look like they're actually reading letter by letter, you know, from the outside looking in. Students can sort of guess their way through things. And unfortunately, it is appealing and it hasn't gone away because it's an easy thing that you could sort of teach.
