The History of the American Dictionary of the English Language
The American Dictionary of the English Language came out in 1828 and contained more than 65,000 words. It took three years to get this new dictionary into print; Webster couldn't find a publisher until his son-in-law connected him with Sherman Converse. After publishing this dictionary, Webster renewed his call for a broader, stronger federal copyright law under the 1790 Copyright Act.
