The French had large investments in the textile industry and Diaz was always ready to give them a helping hand such as in 1907 by shooting over 200 strikers. The first dredger that he brought in, he named it after Diaz's wife. There are 13,000 rural communities that are independent still after all of this expansion. They're on a smaller part of the land because there are 50,000, 57,000 communities within the asiendas.
