Carmella Chararrau's new book looks at the lives of women in 1950s and '60s. She says many wives gave themselves up for their husbands, even if they were married. One woman was so devoted to her husband that she became a writer after he died. The stories show how gender roles are starting to change during this era.
Some books have titles that jump out right out at you, Carmela Ciuraru’s new group biography Lives of the Wives is definitely one of those books. She tells us about her five wives and the hazards of literary relationships.
