The Cyclops
The narrator of this chapter is nameless, he's just a regular Irish tough guy. Joyce describes The Citizen as though he were an old hero in the Irish epics where they build everybody up by piling on all kinds of adjectives. A politician is a person with one eye because he sees only one side of a problem. It takes another person to see the whole problem, and here Bloom supplies that other eye to this balance. There are huge interjections in different styles inserted throughout the chapter. One example is the gigantic description of the Cyclops, a nationalist politician called The Citizen, a big Irish bully in the pub.
