The Film Industry Was in Its Infancy, Right?
I think partly what you want to get on with your life, but also partly because it's such a disgusting subject to write about. So revolting, you know, khaki and mud and blood. You know, people don't want to read about that. The films of the Second World War were an important way in which that war was remembered. Unlike the First World War, where almost nothing of what had happened was really accurately recorded. Not from reading books, but from reading these documents, and the details they gave about the rations, the tea, how long you were there.
