Happiness was not hedonism and the pursuit of pleasure it was virtue and self mastery. For Cicero just as private happiness was achieved by a well-tempered mind public happiness was achieved with a well-Tempered constitution. We had to find the same balance in our faculties of reason on the private level that we have to do among the branches of government on the public level might something like that work yeah i mean i think that's that's certainly you know a very influential image this analogy of our inward balance.
