The Hard Line Attitude to Offense

The term woke has become so ubiquitous and contested that getting effects on its real meaning can be elusive. It began on the left to mean being aware of racial and social injustice, but was later seized by the right as a pejorative to indicate moralizing zealotry. Left wing philosophers Susan Neiman believes the term does demand scrutiny. We were looking for a word that expressed a kind of excitement about a political activist project and it seemed like woke would fulfill it.
