George Martin arranged a meeting with Brian Epstein, who then sent a telegram to the Beatles. They were going to make a record, their first session was going to be on the 6th of June. The big sound of that summer was the harmonica. Bruce Chanel had used it on his massive hit, Hey Baby. A bunch of other records came out with harmonica around that time and Lennon was playing harmonica on stage. It seems that neither they nor Epstein were ever told what had actually happened to lead to the contract.
