In modern academia, it's still very intuitive that Marx thought the industrial proletariat in a reductive way. We have seen a tendency of Marxist with more questionable relationships to academia who inverted this and argued for only one type of working class. In some ways, all this was already implied by the mass line in three world theory. Mao says the primary contradiction is not capitalism, the primary contradiction would first be imperialism.
