Quantum Mechanics - How to Overthrow the Fundamental Nature of Reality?

In the copenhagen view of quantum mechanics, it's crucial that i have the quantum system i'm looking at and the outside observer poking it. Hugh everett said what happens if we just include the quantum state of observers as well? What happens if you let the observer be part of the way function, rather than treating them differently?
