The Importance of Zoning Reform in the Housing Market
The Wall Street Journal published an article this week about how zoning reform might be the essentially like a silver bullet answer to this budding crisis. We think it could have a significant impact on the affordability of housing because wealthy homeowners, right? They tend to encourage these more rigid zoning laws that prevents more dense and varied housing coming into their communities. It's hard to increase that supply when the zoning laws across much of the country prevent things like 80 years, accessory dwelling units, and different multi-family housing in neighborhoods that folks want to live in. So we think we need more zoning reform and fewer zoning restrictions in order to help fix this problem"
