The First Voyage Around the World

Ferdinand Magellan's fleet arrived in Colombia on June 12th, 1514. The newcomers found Santa Maria to be a thriving community of about 500 Spanish colonists and 1500 natives. Food shortages quickly emerged and the new colonists turned on the natives. Starvation and disease set in and the results were devastating.
