The History of the Blues

WC Handy's Memphis Blues is generally considered the first blues record proper. The famous dancers Vernon and Irene Castle came up with a dance, the Foxtrot - largely inspired by black dancers. Most vocal performances of these early blues that were captured on record were by white performers. A group of black musicians played at Seros Club in London under a name which I'm not going to say in full. It started with Seros Club, and continued illiteratively with another word starting with C, a slur for black people.
