If your flight is delayed, turn on the notifications so you can continually be updated on what's happening. Many airlines do offer complimentary hotel accommodations and you can find all that out on the DOT Airline Customer Service Dashboard. For delays that extend overnight due to controllable issues, that is something like the crew is not there. They have to clean the plane. But again, extreme weather does not fall under that controllable reasoning.
