The biggest stress on the drive is actually the temperature cycle of having it coold down and then heating it back up again. The heat cycling inside a e a laptop without power hungry, probably not bad. If a disk is going to die, it is very likely to be at the point of powering down powering up. And that doesn't happen so much to these ones.
