Is Distributional Semantics Really Important?

There are many different paths to form, you know, to form a representation. In humans with the medial temporal lobe that if you show them images together in a certain order, then there's a topology which is formed in the brain. And it seems completely counterintuitive to us that using this very like naive way of constructing this topology would actually produce the right representation. But it does.
