Aristotle's Idea of a Hierarchical Society
The idea that in a book written in the 300th BC Aristotle believed in the exclusion of certain people from civic life is an extraordinary thing to have done. It goes back to what you described as this certain narcissism of the current age. Where we look back at the past and we scour it for things that they were thinking which we don't now think. Therefore you throw it out. The thing that's really dispiriting is this need for really not complex figures.
