In 18 79, congress passed an act that created a federal holiday honoring washington. This was actually the first holiday that celebrated just one person. But as we know, dates shifted and so it was kind of confusing to know what day that was going to fall on. And then at one point, i think they cand of just pushed it all together and called it president's day. I agree with you that president's day as a concept does kind of cheapen it because we've had a lot of mediocre presidents.
