The Harness Maker
The book's theme is the frozen, what does the judge call it? The point of that harness maker story is to say that there's a violent regression based on an idealized father figure that has simply disappeared from one's life. And Holden, at the end, tells the kid, you could have been my son. We should probably talk about the the jakes, the dancing bear bizarre and incomprehensible.
