If you have experienced some sort of trauma from a person in your life it's really really difficult to do work on it while they're still in your life. The death of a parent is a huge one that can kind of dredge up old feelings and things you thought you were you already dealt with regardless. If you haven't done the work yet in therapy I really recommend you process this type of stuff these types of feelings with a therapist. Just because it can feel really overwhelming and at least having a therapist can ground you while you work through it.
