The book is cited over and over again as source material about lots of pirates who lived up through the early eighteenth century. Captain johnson spends a pretty good chunk of words reiterating that the story that he is telling is absolutely true. He's basically saying, this is totally true, you guysye. I know this sounds made up, but it really happened.
