The Cancellation Culture of Social Media
In 2011, there was general enthusiasm about the capacity for social media to allow independent perspectives to gain traction outside of state control. But once it became clear that that process would not necessarily lead to liberalization or democratization, there was a move to tighten things up. And so all of this has tightened up what seemed to be a very open and high potential environment into something which I think invites some people to think about this in terms of perspectives that grew out of the 40s and 50s.
