Is There a Gatekeeper?
The Internet is kind of the great equalizer in terms of content production. People don't just want the exact same things over and over again, although the Marvel movie franchise may suggest otherwise. But I think that sense that you talk about is that gatekeeping of trying to find some degree of differentiation. Now, is it optimal? I don't know. But when you've got gatekeepers with power, they can sort of push that on consumers. That's why you're seeing a lot of these franchises because you can bank on them.
