What Is a Committee in Congress?
Almost every bill that is written in congress is referred to a relevant committee. There are 20 permanent standing committees in the house, 16 in the senate,. Four joint committees have members from both the house and the senate. Each committee has a chair, very important role. The chair of a committee always belongs to the party that controls that chamber of congress.
