The Paradox of Hiring From the Inside
You would think all of this would point us towards promoting more from the inside, which is exactly not what we do. It's an astonishing fraction of companies where jobs when they first get posted, they either get posted at the same time as you see them if you're not in the company or sometimes they even get posted publicly before you have any chance as an insider to apply for these kinds of companies. If it's really true that the information problem sits at the heart of this, we are just not so sure who the best person is. And then we're just not soSure about the work arrangements that are most productive. That was actually the part of this that I didn't fully appreciate
