We have a fundamental sense of what might be helpful for other people, right? What might be good for them, what I could do for them? But in any moment we have this choice then to honor that sense and be in relationship with this person as an I-Vow, or to betray that sense. We see the other person as an it, as an object rather than as a person. And so all of a sudden we start creating justifications like, well, you know, I took out the garbage yesterday. He was working on that. You know, just think of the zillions of justifications that goes in your mind as soon as you make that decision.
