Cox's Disabilities
After attending a preparatory high school and gaining an associate's degree from a community college, he obtained a bachelor of science in law. The next year, though, right at the beginning of the great depression, he was stricken with poleo and experienced partial paralysis in both his legs. It was in the face of this disability that he changed his career plans and sought the life of an academic rather than a lawyer. For his doctorate, he changed fields, from economics to sociology, like e franklin fraser before him.
