How to Trade a Mortgage Bond?

Mortgage banker might create a bond to day, but the actual loan would not be closed for maybe three or four months. They sell it in the mortgage market where we trade in forward contracts. So right now you can trade an october mortgage. People are doing this on prop desks, and the smarter traders are figuring this out. What eventually changes? Is it the client smartening up! Does it attract more competition?
