Difference Making Risk Aversion
It's crucial to distinguish between what I'll call standard risk aversion which is the standard thing and this difference making risk aversion. Let me try to convince you then that there's something anti-altaristic about those preferences. So if you're going to be thinking in terms of making a difference at least avoid being risk averse with respect to the difference you make.
