Marriage and the Law of Chastity
The women in my research that thrived in marriage, both sexually and emotionally, didn't buy in to a gender inequality idea. They gave themselves significance. Their sexuality mattered. And so even if din't know, they valued the law of chastity because they saw it as something that they wanted in their lives. But they weren't staying virginal so they could earn the love of a man some day. So this sort of self authoring was fundamental to their way of living. I feel like the challenge in creating more equality within marriages and within the church and within society is really understanding what equality looks like.
