The two main characters are Archibald Jones Archie and Samad Iqbar. Most of the book takes place in the 70s and then after from their 80s and 90s. The book opens with Archibald a New Year's Eve in 1975. A little green light flashed in his eye a signaling a right turn he had resolved never to make.
