How to Start a Learning Episode

Every learning episode starts. It's got to, right? But maybe a learning episode lasts three weeks or whatever. I think one of the most important things we have to do as teachers is to understand that children are not clean slates. They know an enormous amount of stuff. One really important aspect of starting a new learning episode, you're about to teach them something novel. You've got to get relationships right with children. We need to destroy absolutely wipe out misconception. Just get rid of them. And at the end they're going to be able to do some sophisticated questions on the board.
