The Position That You Reject Is the Position of the Roman Catholic Church

In Lumen Ghentium, for example, you have this notion of the Magisterium of the church. The bishops are understood to be the successors to the place of the apostles. So they retain a sort of an apostolic authority over the whole church. They guide the church, the flock, and the place of God, as it says. And so the decisions that they come to or the determinations that they make are guaranteed by divine providence to be without error.
