The Biggest Challenge in Building AI?
AI2 is a combination of a university department and a startup. We sit part way between a more corporate entity and an academic department. The university department brings the informality, the collegiality, but the startup brings metric focused goals and also accountability. In fact, we don't measure ourselves. A lot of places and there's currently an interesting debate going online. Who's more productive in paper output? Microsoft, Stanford, Google, write all these things. And to me, this is rather silly. So we didn't maximize paper output. We really focused on maximizing positive impact on the world.
