The Importance of Prohibition in Politics

The New York Times published an op-ed piece in 1989 that debunked the narrative that prohibition was a failure. The government didn't say drink your booze, it's because at that time in America, we were suffering through a great economic depression. Let's legalize the commercialization of alcohol because things are great and wholesome are having a good time. They basically said, well, you have nothing. So the very least we can let you do is while you are suffering, allow you to have some alcohol. It takes the edge off at the end of the day.
