The Role of Bilirubin in Conjunctival Ictoris
Why does bilirubin bind to elastin? Do we know? I don't know. structurally, elastin is considered an albuminoid protein,. meaning it's kind of albumin-like. It's possible that that's a simple explanation structurally. As for the instrumental value, like what purpose does it serve us? So I wonder if the body uses elastin as a place to store excess bilirubIN that would otherwise have toxic effects. There's no evidence of this, but I wonder if elastin allows some sort of a buffer forbilirubin when we reach those levels.
