He never faced any charges and many people in Suffolk County wondered if that's because he and prosecuting attorney Thomas Spota had a understanding of sorts. In fact, that understanding may have even motivated Burke to pursue his own career in law enforcement. With Spota's help, Burke had been installed as the Suffolk County Police Chief.
