The People of the Abyss by George Orwell

Orwell felt an enormous amount of shame and guilt for contributing to Britain's rule over Burma. He decided that he no longer wanted to be on the side of the oppressor. Orwell was inspired by the American author, Jack London, who spent time living among the poor working class in the East End of London. Like Jack London, Orwell moved to Paris to join the working class as a dishwasher.
