Genesis was a combination of poetry, an saga and obviously a pre scientific world view with lots of phenomenalogical language. To take it literally means that you you read it and interpretit based on its genre. It's not meant to be taken in this scientifically precise kind of way. There's nothing in genesis one and two that goes against anything that we're learning in science.
